Bingo Update (Harley Greenberg)

Harley reported as a follow-up to the last meeting suggestion about using a TV for Bingo, it can be shown on TV, but a camcorder would be needed to project the image on a big screen TV. This method is self-defeating and not recommended.

Volunteers have come forwarded to do bingo. The new Bingo Committee members are: Diane Ocel, Joan Wierenga, Juanita Harrison, Barb Illies, and Judy Valois. Harley informed us that the transition would be very smooth, as they are already being trained.

Bingo currently has $ 5777 in their checking account. A new bingo machine is $6700. In addition, it would cost approximately $300.00 to hang the machine on the wall in the clubhouse. Permission to hang it in clubhouse has to be approved by the Architectural Committee. The Activities Committee has already approved a loan of $2500.00 for the purchase of the machine. Harley asked the activities committee to change the loan of $2500 into a grant for the purchase of new machine. He said by doing this, it would allow bingo to increase the amount of prize money awarded during bingo games, since they would not have to take out quite as much money from the proceeds of bingo card sales.

Discussion was opened to the floor on changing the load to a grant. Ed DeCrosta wanted to know about how much the Monday Night Bingo netted each week. About $75 per night is raised. Some members felt the committee should not make the loan a grant. It was pointed out that monies spent by the activities committee are normally for items that are not purchased or done by groups that raise money. This will be discussed and brought up for a vote next meeting.

Newsletter (Jim Brice)

Next issue will be in March. Jim stated he would like to include the craft fair breakdowns and profits, a calendar of Events, club champions, and shootout winners and more in the next issue. He would also like to start a Golfers’ Corner. This section would be devoted to golf rules, and golf etiquette etc. He reported that they ran off 450 copies of the last issue.

Garden Club (Kay Yanochko)

Kay spoke to Dennis Catoe about monies for flowers. He said there’s no money left for flowers after the hurricane. She talked to Holly O’Connor thinking the activities committee could contribute some funds for money. Also each building could take some responsibility in helping around their building, planting and watering. Jim Markusen said that in the past, flowers were planted so that sprinklers hit all the flowers. It was suggested that further studying of the planting of flowers be studied. It is too late to plant new flowers for this year.
