News Flash 07>Flyover Construction 7/1/07

Work on the Gladiolus/Summerlin "Flyover" is continuing on the various approaches.  We'be been wondering what this change in traffic patterns will mean to those of us who access Gladioulus via Lakewood Blvd.  Here's the latest info.   These pics were taken on June 25, 2007.

As you can see in this view which looks east from the Sweet Bay entrance off of Gladiolus, the eastbound Gladiolus to northbound Summerlin ramp is now open.

You can also see that eastbound Gladiolus traffic can turn left into Lakewood.

Drivers coming out of Lakewood must turn right (westbound) on Gladiolus.

The view for that turn is marginal.  Westbound drivers on Gladiolus are partially hidden from view unless the vehicle emerging from Lakewood sneaks out beyond the crosswalk for  a better view.

Note that there is an almost immediate left turn lane and a right turn lane.  The left turn lane is actually a "U-Turn" lane allowing vehicles to proceed eastbound on Gladiolus.  The right turn lane is for Sweet Bay.

This view from closer to the Lakewood connection to Gladiolus is looking westbound.

You can see the U-Turn lane.  The early users of this lane were thinking it was the left turn lane for Winkler--taking them to Publix for example.  WRONG!!  That left turn lane is much further past the entrance to Sweet Bay.

Currently work is still proceeding on the intersection and all traffic still veers left at the intersection with Winkler.  It is not clear what lane markings and curbs will be like at that intersection when the work is completed.

You may be able to see that curbs are being used to define the UTurn lane and the lane that allows eastbound vehicles to turn onto Lakewood.

Clearly, this will be an unprotected U-Turn and it will take a few tries to determine how "tight" that turn is based on the total width of the eastbound lanes at that point.
