With the season
getting into full swing and the tennis courts now open for play, we
thought it was a good time to remind owners of the rules governing the
use of these facilities. Often times we see these signs but
"glaze over" on what they say. With the presence of many people unfamiliar with the amenities here at Golfview, we ask that all owners remind their tenants and guests of these rules to avoid disappointment or embarrassment. |

We are sad to report that Claudia Gaimari passed away
yesterday morning (10/07/10). Jerry indicated to us that
her cancer had come back
and after Chemo she got some very bad infections. They were
treating
the infections when the cancer came raging back and if they treated her
with more Chemo she would have no white cells to fight the infection
and if they kept fighting the infection then the overabundance of white
cells would do her in. So they made her as comfortable as they
could. She had no pain and passed away peacefully in her
sleep. There will be a private family service at a later date. Condolences may be sent to Jerry and his family at: 164 Log Plain Road, West Greenfield, MA 01301-1027 |

![]() Good News. The Troll family has returned to Golfview. Remember that the Trolls like to get mail from little people (e.g., grandkids) and will send letters back to any pen pals who care to write to them. Their house can be found near the picnic area along side the pool. You can see their mail box in the picture above. More Good

| From this morning on
news-press.com Chris Umpierre cumpierre@news-press.com Three south Fort Myers residents sprang into action to pull their elderly, bed-ridden neighbor from inside a burning home Sunday night. Maureen Black, 69, was rescued from her condominium at Summerlin Trace on Cypress Trace Court as fire authorities arrived. Neighbors Andre Nesfield and Dave Dalesio got Black’s house key from Harold Lindgren, president of the condo association. “When they opened the door, they were met with a wall of black smoke,” Lindgren said. “It was so bad you couldn’t even crawl inside. And then they looked down and there she was, covered in soot.” Black, who was home alone after a recent hip surgery, was taken to a local hospital Sunday. Her condition wasn’t known Sunday night, but Iona-McGregor Fire spokeswoman Laurie McMahon said Black’s dog, Bullet, died in the blaze. Black’s one-story townhome, which she owned, is a complete loss, officials said. Six other units, including Dalesio’s, sustained damage. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire and declined to give a possible cause. Neighbors said the fire originated on Black’s back porch. Lindgren said Black liked to smoke on the back porch. “It could have been worse,” Lindgren said. “If I didn’t happen to have Maureen’s key, Maureen wouldn’t be with us. And if Andre didn’t go to my door right when he saw the fire, she wouldn’t be with us.” Nesfield, who recently moved to the community and didn’t know Black, first saw the flames as he was driving home from work about 5:40 p.m. 4:21 P.M. — Update Sixty-nine-year-old Maureen Black remained in critical condition today following the Sunday fire that destroyed her condo on Cypress Trace Court in south Fort Myers. The fire also damaged at least six other nearby units. Black’s dog Bullet died in the blaze. Iona-McGregor fire marshal Phillip Brown said the fire is not suspicious. He said investigators have an idea how the fire started but are not releasing that information. It could be several days before that information is released. Next door neighbor Dave Dalesio was at home when the fire broke out around 6 p.m. and was able to pull Black from her burning condo. Several of her neighbors described Black as a nice lady with health problems. She lived at the residence with her son James, who wasn’t home at the time of the fire. Brown said Black was a smoker and used oxygen tanks for breathing purposes, but he couldn’t confirm that contributed to the fire. He did say oxygen tanks and smoking can be a deadly combination, because using the tanks can saturate an area with oxygen, fueling an ignited fire. Black’s home was the only one completely destroyed in the fire, but Dalesio’s home sustained heavy damage to the roof and outer walls as well. He said it looks like it’s going to be several months before he and his family can move back in to the condo. They are planning on staying at a hotel until they decide what to do next. “It could have been way worse,” Dalesio said. “They all could have went up. We were lucky.” |

| FYI:
You may not have noticed that a person very important in your life died on March 8.2010. He was Arthur Fleck, developer of Golfview and The Park. Arthur and his wife Mercedes Lima, who designed all the original landscaping here, were currently living on A & W Road. They also developed, planted and maintained the entire Lakewood Blvd median. They were both very memorable people, she for her friendly, outgoing nature and he for his willingness to be rough and gruff. We loved to be near her and somewhat on edge being near him. But Art got things done, and he had a soft spot--he loved Golfview. He had constructed many hotels, motels and other projects in New Jersey and New York but Golfview was his baby. For each building groundbreaking, he hosted a grand party at the clubhouse, complete with food, music and endless champagne. But first we would all trek to the building site for the groundbreaking, complete with his priest to bless the project and often with a helicopter providing rides. At the clubhouse reception, prior to the festivities Arthur would speak about the owners, the new building and about Golfview and would become emotional and tearful doing his remarks. And could it be, he loved us? He really loved us?! |

![]() These photos (above and above right) were taken on January 21st. They show the initial work of opening the access to the closet to the main room in the clubhouse, relocating the electric outlets, and installing new doors. In the Activity Room, the old doorway is being abandoned and replaced with drywall. |

Work continued today on the fence project along Golfview's west side. Post holes had been dug on Friday and today workers were placing those posts in concrete. Note that the final plans were to have our own fence the entire length of the west side of the property rather than sharing fences with our neighbors to the west. |

Most golfers are aware of the growth of grass and algae around the lakes. The process of cleaning up that problem started today. Here you can see the crew working to skim the growth from the surface and bring it up on shore. The vegetation was then trailered out to Hole in One Circle where it was placed in a pickup truck for removal to the Lee County agricultural dump site. The four ibis and the little blue heron waiting on the deck seemed to be expecting better hunting when the project was completed. |

| While waiting to take
pictures of the Lake Cleanup Project, I saw Frank Lingl tending to the
flowers in the planters on the Clubhouse pool deck. I was not
aware that Frank was doing that. I also saw John and Bette
McDonald stopping to thank Frank for the work he was doing. If you happen to see Frank, why not give him a big "thumbs up" for adding to the color around Golfview. |
| Ever wonder what those
pipes coming up from the ground are for? People attending the Welcome Party on Sunday found out when a car, attempting to park on the grass bumped into them. This one is the main supply line to the Clubhouse. When the pipes broke, we had a four foot geyser out front and no water in the clubhouse. |

So, the rocks have
been installed to help prevent future problems, but
the incident points out that the best thing is to keep all four wheels
of your vehicle on the pavement. If the parking lot is full, please park your car on Hole in One Circle. That will help us keep from replacing irrigation sprinkler heads and repairing broken supply lines which can crack under the weight of a vehicle. |
![]() Some portions of the sidewalk had to be "trimmed" back to keep the fence on Golfview property. The view above (looking south) shows that when the sidewalk turns slightly east, the fence will continue through the brush and connect to an existing fence. The photos on the right look north toward Popham Dr. and show the path the fence will take to what will become a gate at Popham. |
