Jean Johnson, an original owner at Golfview (#109 St. Andrews) was admitted to Health Park today.  She is in room 5729.  We will post additional information when it becomes available.

11/18/04  Grandparent Alert!!!!

I am sure that many of you were wondering what was going to come of the Golfview "Troll House" after the extensive damage it suffered during Hurricane Charley.  Well, your questions have been answered in this communication I received directly from A. Troll:

Because of a generous settlement from THIC,(that's Troll House Insurance Company), the Troll House has been
reconstructed. There is a much larger mail box to allow for larger letters to A. Troll. A. Troll urges all readers to see his cousin, a
much larger Troll, in the Harry Potter movie. From what I have heard, A. Troll will be having an open house in the future and may even make an
appearance, although it is usually difficult for adults to see Trolls. All visiting children are encouraged to write a note to A. Troll
including their name, unit number and building so that A. Troll can reply.

Update on Mickie Flanders:

Mickie Flanders (St. Andrews 303) came through her bypass surgery without any problems.  She is recovering at Health Park and prefers not to receive visiters at this time.  Cards can be sent to her Golfview address:  14831 Hole In One Circle, #303

What's Happening at Punta Gorda Country Club??

The News-Press published a lengthy article today on the condition and prospects for Punta Gorda Country Club in the wake of Hurricane Charley.  Because many Golfviewers are regular customers of Punta Gorda CC and many remember Mark Faulkner (former Golfview golf-pro) who is director of Golf for Punta Gorda CC, we are posting a copy of that article here.  Click to see the article.

Re: Gordon Lee's Aortic heart valve replacement

Good news! Gordon's daughter reports that he is being moved out of intensive care already and may possibly be sent home (his daughter's home) on Monday, September 13.

As soon as I find out his daughter's address, I will forward it to you. Inasmuch as he would be leaving the hospital that soon, it would not be timely to send any mail there. Everyone is highly pleased with his progress.

Surgery for Gordon Lee:

Just want to let you know that Gordon had his heart valve replaced this morning. It all went according to plan and all his vital signs are good. Sadie and all her kids with spouses were there along with his sister and us. What a mob. Gordon is heavily sedated and will remain that way at least for the rest of the day. Sadie was told that they won't know if he had a stroke during the procedure until he becomes lucid.

Sadie asked that you all remember him in your prayers. It is contemplated that he will be at least 6 weeks if all goes well before he can go south. More than likely he will have rehab during that period.
Just so you know, Sadie requested that we pass this information on to you from all at Golfview to let everyone know.

God bless and hello from Dick and Joan (Bauser)

I just received this update on Golfview's post-Charlie condition from Jim Beasley:

Monday, August 16, 2004 7:44 PM
Subject: Storm update

Hi all!!!
It has been very busy here since the 13th!! Dennis Catoe has been doing an outstanding job to get what has to be done to protect those buildings that have damaged ! All but Westchester, and Sawgrass have varing degrees of damage. The worst being those building with a Southern view!!! Allot of shingles gone, the roofing people are currently putting up tempory weather covering to prevent any more rain damage, (and it has been raining every night.)

Tree people will be here in couple days to begin removing damaged trees, and/or cut back the broken tree limbs! Their current priority is working with FPL to get power back on for the many people still without it, and in this 90+ wether, allot of people are hurting! Quite a few people who are friends of Westchester condo owners are using units until they can return to their homes on Sanibel, Ft Myers Beach, Ponta Gorda, etc.. Makes one feel good to see how people help people when disaster strikes!!

Again we, Golfview Community, were blessed to have our power back on early Saturday, 14th. Of course the initial power surge blew my refrigeration side of the refrigerator. Freezer works great. Bless Sears as a new one will get here next Monday!

THE PAINTERS CAME BACK , TUESDAY, TO FINISH OUR BUILDING.. THEY ONLY HAD THE WALKWAYS TO DO, SO THEY ANTICIPATE WRAPPING THINGS UP THIS WEEKEND...

By the time most people return in the Fall, this place should be on it way to being it good old self again.

08/16/04

I received a few more pics from Jim Beasley to pass along to residents of Golfview.  We were all blessed to have the Golfview damage limited to a few trees and minor damage to structures.

08/14/04

Hurricane Charley visited the Fort Myers area on 8/13/04 leaving death and destruction in its path.  Here are some pictures that Al Crane sent to give you an idea of how the Golfview Community was left in Charlie's wake.

Many trees along Hole in One Circle were pushed over.  The tree above is leaning on the fence outside the tennis courts.

This view shows some of the water covering Hole in One Circle and the walking path along the west side of the property.
This shot is taken looking north, toward the Popham "gate."

Here's a shot of the road in front of Augusta/Muirfield.  It gives an idea of the damage that was done to the Golfview landscape.

Here are some additional pictures I received from Jim Beasley.

Besides the carports, it looks like some facia is missing near the top of Augusta's pillars.

That's the clubhouse in the background.

It looks like the shuffleboard equipment was spared...although one bench may have been damaged.

There was no caption with this pic.  I think it looks like the north west corner near Pebble Beach.

This view of Westchester is included as an example of the good news.
Note the "lolipop" lights in these pictures.  We had feared that most would be found floating at Lakes Park.

Thanks to Jim Beasley and Al Crane for these photos.

The Osprey Chicks take flight...

Jim Markusen sent these pics of the two chicks and mom...

...the "empty" nest...

...chick returns, mom watches...

...and mom appreciating a little more room in her nest.

Have you seen the two osprey chicks?  I couldn't snap one when they were testing out their little wings, but here are three shots of one of them peeking up over the top of the nest.

Golfview will soon be losing one of its valuable employees, Margie Weeks.  Margie helps keep St. Andrews, Inverness, Sawgrass, Westchester, Pebble Beach looking good outside.  She also regularly cleans the pool area and helps Christina and Daisy whenever necessary. She and her husband will be moving to Lake of the Ozarks, MO where they plan to build a house and do some farming, something Margie has always wanted to do.

Margie's last day will be next Friday, February 20.  You may want to wish her well with a card, a thank you, a hug or a token of your appreciation.  If you have a hard time locating her, leave your greeting (and hugs) with Peggy in the office.
