Bill Moore (former 10-yr. owner in Glen Abbey) passed along this sad news:

I have just learned that Bill Bonwich died of a heart attack 7/28/06. I had tried to call him at Christmas time and the phone number was not a working number. I e-mailed his son and he told me the news.
Bill and Joanne were former owners in St Andrews and also were long time renters before and after they owned.

This is from Dennis Billingham:

ATTENTION:

ALL GOLFVIEW RESIDENTS

Most of us here know Daisy Rivera, a long-time employee at Golfview.  During this past summer tragedy struck in Daisy’s life.  Her young teenage granddaughter was viciously attacked and brutally raped.  Death was the result.  In addition to the intense grief Daisy suffered, she was left with a $6,000.00 funeral expense, for which she has no insurance.

As a result Daisy has taken on a night time job to retire this debt.  She is working Wednesday – Sunday, many times until 2:00 a.m. which means she manages to get a couple of hours sleep before she has to report for her job at Golfview at 6:00 a.m.  While putting in these long hours she has the responsibility of raising her 10 year old grandson and caring for her son who was involved in a motor-cycle accident and is unable to work at the present time.  Daisy plans to quit the night time job just as soon as she can clear the funeral debt.  She has been able to pay 50% of the debt leaving her with $3,000.00 outstanding.

Several residents at Golfview have chosen to help Daisy retire the debt, eliminate the night work and allow her to spend more time caring for her family.

During this season of giving and sharing we invite all Golfview residents to generously contribute to this worthy cause.  Make checks payable to Daisy Rivera marked Funeral Fund.  Should an amount in excess of need be received, we are suggesting Daisy use it in her role as caregiver.  Give your check to Dennis Cato by December 15.  Let’s surprise Daisy with our gifts of love.

The amount received will be posted on Channel 95 for all to see.

An update on John Redding who was injured in July while working on a roof:

A person never realizes how many lives they touch throughout everyday life, until something like this
happens to them. Many of my friends at Golfview have sent me get-well cards, called me on the phone,
and even wrote letters to me, and also visited me. This all touched me deeply.

At the present time I am at home. Diane takes me to physical therapy and occupational therapy three times a
week. I never realized how long it takes a person to get their motor skills back.

God bless all my friends at Golfview.
Sincerely John Redding

This morning's News Press has a story on the Disney Marathon which was run on Sunday (see page C8 in the Sports Section).  Under the heading "Leading the Locals," we found this reference to Golfview's Ken Brick:

"Ken Brick, 65, of Fort Myers finished second in his 65-69 age group in 3:52:38.  Brick completed his 17th marathon and 10th Disney race."
"I run the race every year with friends and I can't wait for next year.  My goal was to finish in the top five in my age group and I accomplished that," he said.

When you see Kenny, be sure to congratulate him on his great performance.

Are you ready for Summerlin Place?  US Home Corp. has applied for permits to build a residential development at the corner of Summerlin Rd. and Lakewood Blvd.  While it is not a done deal, it seems that traffic on Lakewood Blvd.  is in for another increase.  Here are a couple of charts to illustrate the planning so far.

The property abuts the Park, Summerlin Woods, and the nursing home on Lakewood.

In this chart we see a number of multi-family structures and two entrances onto Summerlin Woods Rd.

Are you aware that there is a County Recreation center located at the new Lexington Middle School (off Summerlin Rd just southwest of Bass Rd)?  Well there is, and they are starting up many programs that might be of interest to Golfview residents.
