At the end of September, Holly and Vince took a ride up to Punta Gorda and Port Charlotte to see how the cleaning
and rebuilding was going after Hurricane Charley.  These pictures cannot convey the full impact of this disaster scene
even six weeks after the initial storm.  But there are signs of hope and work is proceeding everywhere to remove the
rubble and fix the damage where it can be repaired.

Between North Fort Myers and Punta Gorda a mountain is taking shape at the landfill site.

Some businesses were open during repairs.

Others were clearly beyond repair.

Some "solid" structures were badly damaged.

Glass and signs were widely victimized.

The Holiday Inn south of the Peace River bridge was devastated.  As were many smaller strip malls.

Check out the sign on this destroyed store front.

Even six-weeks after the storm piles of litter and building materials were seen all along the highway.
