During the Activity Committee Meeting on January 15, 2010, the question came up: "How do the pop tabs being collected for the Ronald McDonald House get picked up or taken over there?"  You see, our little cardboard house in the Clubhouse kitchen was bulging and we had several plastic bags full of the tabs.  Well, nobody knew for sure, so Vince O'Connor said he'd take them over there that afternoon.  Vince discovered that they were very glad to get the donation and they are also very willing to give visitors a tour of the facility.  Here are some pictures from that tour.

This large Ronald McDonald house is where the new donations are placed for processing.

First step in processing is to eliminate non-aluminum tabs and other steel products.  They have begun recycling those, too.

They clean (wash) all of the donated tabs after removing things like coins and bottle caps.

Some of the tabs are bright colors.  These are used to make interesting earrings that sell for $4 a pair.

Did you know that they take pop-tab lids, too.  Some are steel and have to be separated out, but these are aluminum.

Families come to the house with just their clothes.  These are some of the supplies that are given to them to use.

These tabs are ready to go to recycling.  Made our little donation seem puny by comparison.

The Ronald McDonald house is located off of Bass Rd., on the north end of the Health Park campus.  They welcome visitors and are happy to conduct tours.

All Golfview residents are encouraged to save their aluminum pop-tabs and pop-lids for donation to this worthy cause.  The collection point is in the Clubhouse kitchen, and now that we know where to take the tabs, we'll be making regular trips.
